If you think that you need orthodontic treatment, you can contact us directly to make an appointment - you don't need a referral from your dentist. We try very hard to run on time and you can help us to do this by arriving a few minutes early for your appointments, or phoning us if you are running late.
First visit
Before you come to visit us for the first time, please take the time to fill out the New Patient form and then bring it with you on your first visit. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time so that we can go through your paperwork with you and prepare any supporting clinical records for the orthodontist. The orthodontist will discuss your concerns and conduct a detailed oral examination. X-rays may be taken at this time, so we can start to plan your treatment.
After your first visit
We will send you a treatment plan that will detail what we propose to do and give an estimate of the time it will take and how much it will cost. The treatment time depends on how well you respond to the treatment and the care you take with your appliances (braces, retainers, bands etc). The best way to keep the treatment time to a minimum is ensuring our instructions are followed exactly.
During your treatment
At the beginning of your treatment we will probably need to see you once a week for a couple of weeks to fit your appliance and get you underway. Some of these appointments can be quite long - up to 60 minutes - so we will let you know how much time to set aside when we book the appointment. After that initial burst we will need to see you approximately once every six weeks for a short visit to check and adjust the appliance.
After your treatment
We will supply you with a retainer (plate) for you to wear once the treatment is completed, as teeth and jaws can still move around. If you don't have your wisdom teeth yet, we will see you once a year until they come through, just to keep an eye on things and make sure no problems develop.
